Water Baby Playing

There is NOTHING like a happy grandchild!
 Giggles and dancing feet...
when water is around, one crazy baby!
Caught her going through the big one.
 Fascinated by the spray.
 Loving it!
And us loving her...

The Pulitzer Prize Photographs

UPS dropped off my DC souvenir from Newseum, the News Museum located near The Mall.
A fascinating read! Between the covers are the winners beginning in 1942 going through 2011, with comments by the photographers of these outstanding photos.  I can't wait to devour this one!

DC Trip 6 ~ Arlington National Cemitary

The grave sites make me speechless...fields of them.
I couldn't take my eyes off the feet of the Honor Guard!
(The purposeful movement of the feet hypnotizes me.)
Tears form during the changing of the Guards.
A foreign diplomat laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
More feet...
The amplitheater is gorgeous!
Various memorials to see...
And we visited the Kennedy sites ~ the Eternal Flame below.
Another long day and a memorable one too!

DC Trip 5 ~ Other Memorials Visited

Some of the other Memorials we visited include...
 the Iwa Jima Memorial,
the Korean Memorial,
(Don't drink the water...it's really this color!)
and the Wall /Vietnam Memorial.
(Helping out a Vet ~ he didn't say much,
only that he had several friends listed on this panel.)
We walked our dogs off!

DC Trip 4 ~ Air and Space Museum at Dulles

I loved seeing the exhibits relating to the "Space Race"
at the Air and Space Museum ~
these photos taken at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
Then there was this old torpedo...love the wood on it!
And I got a kick out of seeing the "Bubble" Barbie in her spacesuit!
Remember Bubble Barbie?

DC Trip 3 ~ WWII Memorial

When first in DC we learned of the plans to build this monument ~
the World War II Memorial.
My dad served in WWII along with
my two uncles, one died off Saipan.
This end represents Pacific and the other end Atlantic.
The memorial is located on the other end of the Reflective Pool,
and you can see the Lincoln Memorial on the horizon.
I wasn't the only photographer...
I loved the bronze scenes as you walk through the entrances.
The etched quotes are touching...
Each pillar representing the US states, the District of Columbia,
and the Territories of the US as of 1945.
Amazing to me - my family's states were on the side
where they fought...very emotional!
My Uncles from Oklahoma!
 Dad was originally from Kentucky.
Dad spent most of his time in North Africa
and Sicily/Rome.
 This sums it up well...

DC Trip 2 ~ The Capitol

On our last visit to DC, we didn't arrange to enter the Capitol,
so this time it was our first and only planned event.
My Hubineer, said it was his favorite part of our trip!
And I liked it (eye opening!), so it was brilliant...
Inside the dome you see the following...
Always look up...
The Capitol is stunningly decorated...it's gorgeous inside!

Before our initial tour, we ran over to our
Representative's office and got passes to enter the Chambers
to see our Congress and Senators in action...
let me tell you, I was proud to see one of "our" state Senators in action
and shocked to see only a few Senators and Congressmen at work.
(Later I learned they can watch "the goings on" from their offices,
but still, REALLY...okay, no lectures from me!)
We spent most of our day there,
so, unfortunately,  I don't have a lot of photos to share...
you really can't take photos in the Chambers.
Before we left we ran into our Senator Coburn and
talked to him about our impressions.
