My Eye Drama. What do I do next?
Well, here's an update on my eyes. I mentioned my concerns in my last (first) posting of Flickr's Macro Mondays, and long story short I had cataract surgery and lens implants this summer. Monday I went to get my eyes checked and maybe have the YAG procedure. This removes the scar tissue from your eyes if it has blurred your vision after surgery.
The surgeon said we need to wait another 30 days to remove the scar tissue as it hasn't been 3 months from my last surgery. Then I found out my right eye isn't healing properly so I can either tweak my vision in that eye or have the lens replaced all together and start over. Dilemma! I can see pros and cons to this. First the replacement would be covered with the package I purchased but how much more damage/scarring or probing can my eye take and how will it affect my vision down the road?! On the tweak, the con, I'm not getting what I paid for and feel I should take advantage of this savings to see 20/20. My vision right after surgery was 20/20 which I never had before and so I now know what I could be missing. My right eye like many people is my dominant eye which I use to look through my camera....my close vision is good but my far vision isn't correcting. I need to see as best as I can to really enjoy photography and life in general!
My greatest fear, second to dying, is loosing my vision. And I pray NIETHER ever happens! (Yeah, I'm a realist and know I will one day die, but that really isn't the discussion here. Just a way of showing how concerned I am about vision.) I would love some input or hear your stories if you will share.
I DON'T want to miss seeing what this cutie will do next!
Enjoy your day,
Millie
I had mine done 3 years ago, and had the YAG done on both eyes at different times. did you wear glasses before? I did and after surgery I could watch TV without my glasses but not drive or function... I don't know your age, but sight will start get worse again, 3 years after and now I have to watch TV with glasses. age related vision can be corrected with glasses. I chose to not pay the extra for the new lens. I know one person who loved her new lens and one that said she would not do it again. so you are right back where you started. I am no help at all with making a decision. does it help to know we are in the same boat? I to fear being blind even more than death. my mother went blind from diabetes for her last 4 years and died at age 63.. I go to eye doctor once a year and guard my visons carefully. do a google search on the difference and see what others say.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have worn glasses sense the 3rd grade and I'm 65 by the way. My brother in law also had the cataract surgery, maybe 10 years ago, with lens implants too and never had an issue that he talked about. I have been told they also can tweak the lenses to correct the vision down the road. I know with my procedure I couldn't believe how well I saw right after but now it's not as clear and probably by the power of suggestion I notice it getting worse after I was told I needed the YAG. I have a great imagination! I actually have the sensation of wearing contacts, especially by the evening and want to physically remove them and that is very annoying! I want to pop those babies out! I'm sorry you are back to glasses and about your mother, so sad, that is so hard to watch a loved one go through that. I think my folks had reading glasses after cataract surgery. My doctor told us up front that we may need cheaters afterwards but once your eye fully adjusts and heals we would not need them any longer. So far I haven't used them except when beading (I make jewelry). I have mixed feelings on whether I should have had it done, as for my beading, I didn't need any kind of correction to see before but for reading I did. I'll have to do as you say, and try to google about this problem. But stay away from any graphic photos. I did call my optometrist to get his opinion about the replacement. He said to have the YAG, then see how that worked then consider the PRK to trim the lens to improve vision much like they do with hard and semi hard contact lenses, but with a laser. He didn't think the replacement would be necessary. My husband is having the YAG this Monday, so he will be my test subject (lol)! Thank you for commenting, it did help to hear about your fear too and what your experience has been! Keep up the blogging, I love reading it!
