Iris Progression Part 1

Part 1.  Iris Buds
It's that time of year when I realize the weeds will take over the house if I don't get busy pulling them.  And it means removing all the leaves that have collected in the gardens over the winter. While doing so, I noticed how healthy my irises have gotten and that they have big buds already.
My gardening neighbor friend gave me iris bulbs a few years ago and I planted them with good results.  I have heard of thinning the bulbs and I think it's time by the looks of these plants.  I haven't a clue how to do that.  Once these buds bloom, I'll then tackle separating the bulbs after watching a YouTube video.  Another great use of the technology we sometimes hate.

Iris progression from bud to bloom, is an on going watch for those beautiful ole lady flowers that I've loved since my childhood. (Was I born old?)  The neighbor who would babysit me had a garden only for iris and I always loved it when in bloom!
Enjoy your day!

  2. I have two patches of Iris. One blooms in early spring and the other in late spring. They are so beautiful and a favorite of mine. I have lived here for 19 years and they were here long before that.

  3. I love irises, too....and I need to separate some of my bulbs...and was too late thinking about it last year. I need to go back to youtube and watch a few videos of different things and make a chart of when they need to be done.

  4. I have always loved Irises. They remind me of Orchids, maybe that's why i love them so much.
