Weekend Foliage Outing
This was the weekend the foliage was to be at it's peek down south in our state. The Talimena Scenic Drive in Oklahoma is a popular place to view the legendary yellow, red and rust colors of our native trees. (Legendary, ha, only in our mind.) Thank goodness for pine trees!
Our night at a nearby golf resort, was unusual to say the least. We were the only ones there! No security, no staff, nobody. The building itself was like a college fraternity dorm. The building had about 12 rooms all sharing a common area with a large kitchen and living area with a hot tub. At least we didn't have to share bathrooms. I told my husband, I was a little freaked out, and he pipped up with, "I know, it feels like a Friday 13th Movie". Yikes, I'm surprised I didn't hightail it to our room! We already paid, so we turned on every light in the "dorm", looked under and behind everything, locked doors and windows and stayed in our room. I didn't sleep well but we survived! I wish I had taken photos of our adventure, but I was not thinking straight. This was one to add to the memory book.
We are back home, safe and ready to start a new week with an interesting story to tell.
As the Autumn Foliage Nazi says, "No color for you!" (Seinfeldism.)
Seriously, another Autumn burnout in Oklahoma! My husband and I made the best of it, enjoying each other, having great food and despite the lack of colorful views, the drive is pretty. And we had great talks, and laughter, so it was a nice get away. Next year, we might just head out of state to find a scenic drive that doesn't disappoint. Our night at a nearby golf resort, was unusual to say the least. We were the only ones there! Enjoy your day!
you have no idea how many FEARS I have of THINGS... I would have asked for the money back and left. staying in the room would be a waste because I would never be able to sleep. I read way to many thrillers and my mind is already going with STORIES just reading about staying there. your views are magnificent to me. we don't have views like that here in FL... if on a road, it is flat and you can only see the pines beside you, like an open to the sky flat tunnel. we do have beach views but they are so crowded with traffic and houses we can't see the beach. it sounds like you both had a great time though
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful Jack Nicholson's head didn't pop through a door saying, "it's Johnny", like in the shining! lol....Enjoy your day!
DeleteYour night does sound unusual and I am glad it went okay! lol
ReplyDeleteI do think you got some grand views...but know what you mean about no fall. We had a fall, and still a few colorful trees about. But seems like I seldom get to get out and find new views. Or even old views that I have to drive to.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't have that beautiful color. I do like how you said you still made the best of it and had a good time, well, except for the unusual night accommodations.
